Shana Johnson for Public Defender
Shana Johnson started her career as an attorney twenty-four years ago. She has been working for the State of Tennessee at the 25th Judicial District Public Defender Office for twenty-three years. Shana Johnson attended University of Kentucky, and furthered her career at Memphis State University where she received her Juris Doctorate and has been licensed to practice law in Tennessee since 1989. Shana has served as Senior Assistant District Public Defender for nineteen years. In Shana Johnson's twenty-three years of public service she has handled criminal cases in every court in all five counties in this district. Shana is one of three Death Penalty qualified criminal defense attorneys in the 25th District, where she has successfully defended thousands of cases ranging from Class C misdemeanor cases to Capitol Murder cases. Shana has participated in numerous seminars and conferences over the years not only on the state level but nationally in order to better represent her clients. She has attended DNA National Conference in Tampa, FL., National Advocates for Children Conference in Orlando, FL and Capital Case Experts in Atlanta, GA. Shana is a current member of the Tennessee Drug Court, Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Tennessee Bar Association, and Fayette County and Hardeman County Bar Associations. She also is a active Relay for Life Volunteer and STAR Inc. Acting Troupe Member. She is a St. Jude Childrens Hospital,Dolly Parton Imagination Library ( Hardeman and Fayette County Chapter) and Boy Scout and Girl Scout Supporter. Shana is a member of Hardeman County Arts Council and a member of McNairy County Regional Alliance. She has sat as a Special Judge for Somerville City Court, Fayette County General Sessions, and Juvenile Courts. Shana is a past member of Foster Care Review Board, and Board of Directors at Fayette Academy. Shana has a been a life long First United Methodist Church member. Shana Johnson is a member at Somerville First United Methodist Church, and occasionally attends Faith United Methodist Church in Oakland, and Macon United Methodist Church. Shana Johnson is married to Jeff Johnson an employee of the Nike Corporation in Memphis, TN. Jeff is on the executive committee of the Fayette County Tom Karcher Delta Waterfowl Chapter. He is involved with judging and competing in Memphis in May Barbecue Events as well as catering of barbecue with his father. He also works part time with Craft Mechanical. Shana and Jeff are the parents of two children. Trent a member of the United States Army National Guard and employee of Medic One Ambulance is a graduate of Fayette Academy and attended Christian Brothers University. Charleston is a sophomore at Fayette Academy and is currently president of her church youth group. Shana Johnson has dedicated her career to representing the indigent defendants in Lauderdale, Tipton, Hardeman, Fayette and McNairy Counties. She will as the Public Defender continue to make certain the duties of this office are carried out in accordance with the mandates of the Constitution of the United States and the State of Tennessee and be a good steward of the taxpayers funds allocated to this office.
